The entire lake and the surrounding forest are protected and swimming is prohibited. However, the hiking trails to the Feldsee offer unforgettable moments in untouched nature. Mountain lake
The writer Joseph Victor von Scheffel gave the mountain lake in Bad Säckingen its name. The name “Schwarzsee” used until then for the five-hectare dammed water surface was subsequently abolished. In Scheffel’s honour, a rock formation was given the name Scheffelfelsen and here you can feel it: the wild, romantic atmosphere of this area. You can still feel today how the mood of this spot put the writer in the mood for his story centuries ago.
Today there is a small restaurant, pedal boats and a game reserve nearby at the mountain lake.
